An earlier draft falsely read: “SARS-CoV-1 and MERS-CoV both caused an epidemic without an FCS” which has been corrected to “MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV-1 both caused epidemics, one with and one without an FCS”. I thank Twitter user CD8 for spotting the error.
